18A - Create a Customer Avatar

This student-run organization will provide services regarding struggles that most college students face but do not confront. I imagine my customer avatar to be an undergraduate college student living in an apartment complex near campus who charges expensive parking fees. They also feel uncomfortable with speaking up about situations where most people never say something about and wishes to have a stronger voice about the things they do not agree with. My customer enjoys keeping themselves busy with homework, student involvement on campus, exercising, and taking time to relax. They walk over to campus everyday and use their car mostly on special occasions since eveything is so close to them. With all the responsibilities and expenses my ideal customer already has on their plate they do not tend to think about the expensive parking fee that actually hurts their means at the beginning of the month. My customer is typically happy and handles situations as they come, however when an opportunity arises regarding something they feel strongly about they won’t hesitate to take it.

Something I found in common with the customer avatar is that I usually tend to keep myself busy with other tasks and I underestimate the effect of a problem that’s taking away a chunk of money from my bank account on a monthly basis. I did not find this a coincidence because I myself am a college student who lives close to campus and pays an expensive parking fee and since everyone else pays it and no one complains then I make myself believe it is the right thing to do, when it should not have to be that way.

  1. dear ciara,
this is a well thought out problem and clearly you have spent an immense time pondering the effect of losing such a large sum of monthly allowance to pay a parking fee. additionally, i appreciate how you differentiate between the larger monetary payments and the small timely ones for coffee and food.

  2. Hi Ciara,
I am also a student with a car! My first semester I lived on campus and therefore had to pay the expensive fee for parking... and couldnt even park near where I lived! It was so stressfull and I ended up paying for 3 separate parking tickets as well. So when I made the move off campus the very first thing I looked for was a place with tons of parking options and no parking fee! I think its very important as a student to be able to have accessible transportation. Especially in a big university.

  3. Ciara,

I think that your post was very explanatory and descriptive. I liked how specific you got on certain portions of who your customer will be, and the way that you explained that in most ways, this person is you. I think that something that you, yourself, would be interested in is often something that you would have the most expertise on and would therefore be better equipped to help solve the problem with an effective solution.
