21A - Reading Reflection No.2
The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users - Guy Kawasaki
1) The general theme of the book was how to build your own proper social media, since social media can greatly impact a persons future career by their posts. This book describes how to show viewers great content and how to professionally show the word the type of person you are.
2) This book connected with what I am learning in this course because this class works through blog posts where we are always looking at our classmates blogs. Although the blogs are for a class, they still portray a form of social media which emphasizes how social media is everywhere and how it is important to keep a clean slate. A group of students have been reading my blog and seeing the pictures and write ups that I post which both portray my work ethic and my personality. It helps me realize that social media is so common that it’s being used for class assignments.
3) If I had to design an exercise for this class based on the book I read, the exercise would involved students choosing on of their social media accounts, it could be Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. and digging deep regarding who they follow, who follows them, what they have posted, what others have posted about them and write about it. Furthermore, students should then reflect and think about the red flags they saw when evaluating their social media accounts and take action by deleting posts or unfollowing other people. The goal of this exercise would be to help students be the best version of themselves that they can be and not let one silly mistake they have out on social media ruin a future opportunity.
4) Something I learned that differed most from my expectations was that there are two ways to “feed the Content Monster” which basically means finding enough content to share on social media. The first way is content creation which is simply writing something up or taking pictures and posting them. The second way is content curation which is finding great content from other social media pages and posting it on your page. I found it mind-blowing how we live in a generation where there is basically a science to social media and how it works. I would have never thought there would be two different ways of how to gain followers or simply entertain those who follow you.
Hi Ciara,
ReplyDeleteI really like how involved you were in this book. Your post makes me feel that the ideas and message of the book resonated very well with you, and that it's contents could have a positive influence on your marketing. I agree this the ideas are comparable with what we do in class, seeing as the social media aspect of the blogs plays a major role in our assignments.
dear ciara,
ReplyDeletei love how you compare the blog posts for our class to the environment that social media provides its workers. this comparison is great seeing that we are actually mixing our class blogs with the books understanding of social media. additonally, i enjoyed your focus on the act for one to look back on their social media to do a sweep or clean up the inappropriate or unnecessary content.
Ciara,
ReplyDeleteI think that the assignment that you designed is one that would have been very effective in forcing people in the class to think critically and look at themselves from a different scope or lens. There are many things that we have done for this class and that we do for other classes that involve us making a mock social media account about a person or design the ideal customer, and we are told to relate ourselves back to the person, but this assignment would look at the person that we really are, when we are not trying to act correct and different for assignments and in front of professors and classmates. I think it would be very effective and in some cases, help people change for the better.
